Challenging Disability Through Outdoor Adventure

Britain's Most Beautiful Marathon

Kielder Marathon 2010

Sunday 17 October 2010

What is it about

Congratulations to all Calvert Trust Kielder runners, who competed in the inaugural Kielder Marathon.  The event was billed as ‘Britain’s most beautiful’ and few could argue with that, as the runners began their run around the lakeside way, in glorious autumn sunshine.  First time visitors to Kielder Water & Forest Park are sure to have been amazed by the breathtaking landscape surrounding Europe’s largest man made lake.

Steve Cram described the route as challenging, so our cheering squad set up near the centre to encourage and applaud the runners as they approached 21 miles and faced yet another ‘steep incline’ with determination and resolve.  Several asked if they could borrow the various mobility scooters and wheelchairs our cheer team were occupying, to help them get up the hill!

The Fast Guys

First past the post for Calvert was Paul Davies in an amazing time of 3:47 closely followed by Ben Halfpenny 3:50 and Duncan Robb 3:55.

Well done everyone who took part.

Our Target

We hope to raise £10,000 in sponsorship from the race, which will enable us to continue our support for people with disabilities and help them achieve their potential through the challenge of outdoor adventure.
