Challenging Disability Through Outdoor Adventure

Royal Visit to Calvert Trust Exmoor

HRH Princess Alexandra will visit Calvert Trust Exmoor on the 12th September 2012 to open a brand new building.

The first part of the new building provides brand new, fully accessible changing rooms, built to “Sport England” standards, for the hydrotherapy pool. The second part of the new building is a new fully glazed, elevated, communal area that will, for the first time, enable visitors to The Calvert Trust Exmoor to appreciate fully the fantastic views to the south west across Wistlandpound Reservoir, down the valley of the river Yeo and into South Devon.  This area will also provide a fantastic facility to admire and study the stunning night skies that are such a feature ofNorth Devon’s Dark Sky Reserve.

In celebration of the leadership of this project by Lady Acland JP, Chairman of the Trustees of The Calvert Trust Exmoor, it has been decided to call this new room “The Acland Room”.

The £1m project has been built by Pearce Construction of Barnstaple, working with architects from the David Wilson Partnership.  It has been funded by generous donations from the public, Calvert Trust Trustees and Grant Making Trusts.

Before opening The Acland Room, HRH Princess Alexandra will tour the Calvert Trust Exmoor site to meet members of staff, visitors and representatives of the many local, regional and national organisations that support Calvert Trust Exmoor.

Tim Harris, Calvert Trust Exmoor Chief Executive; “It is a great honour for us to welcome HRH Princess Alexandra to open our new facilities and The Acland Room.  I would like to thank everyone who has given so generously and worked so hard to complete the project. These new facilities are going to make a positive contribution to quality of the lives of the visitors to our Centre, for many years to come”.
