Challenging Disability Through Outdoor Adventure

New Chief Executive for Calvert Trust Exmoor

Tony Potter will be joining Calvert Trust Exmoor from 7th November 2012 as the new Chief Executive Officer, following the resignation of the current CEO Tim Harris, who is retiring in order to pursue an MA In History at Exeter university.

Tim Harris: “Having been Calvert Trust Exmoor CEO for the last 4 ½ yrs I have thoroughly enjoyed leading this fantastic organisation that truly demonstrates ‘it’s what you can do that counts’. Having successfully completed the recent £1m Acland Room building project it seemed like the ideal moment to ‘hand over the reins’ to my successor. I’m looking forward to seeing how the centre develops further in the coming years under Tony’s leadership.”

During an Army career spanning over 30 years Tony has deployed worldwide and held a wide variety of appointments, including working alongside the United Nations and aid agencies in East Africa on the construction of water wells, schools and clinics in vulnerable areas. Tony joins Calvert Trust Exmoor straight from his final appointment with British Forces Cyprus as Chief - Operations and Training, which  included support to UK planning and operations throughout the 2012 ‘Arab Spring’.

Married with three children, Tony is a keen sportsman with interests across a wide variety of activities, including representing Great Britain at the 1982 World Ski Orienteering Championships! His current sporting pursuits are now slightly more sedate, he enjoys golf, tennis and cricket umpiring, and is keen to encourage others to participate in sports and outdoor activities.

Tony said; “I’m excited about taking up this new challenge and I’m looking forward to being part of an award winning charity that makes a real difference to the lives of many disabled people.”

As well as ensuring the smooth day to day running of the centre, Tony will also take responsibility for the implementation of Calvert Trust Exmoor’s new 5 year plan, which includes the development of exciting new facilities including an off road driving course and an accessible camping experience, as well as significant re-development of climbing walls and riding facilities.
