Challenging Disability Through Outdoor Adventure

Backup's Coastal Push

A team of young people from The Backup Trust, a charity supporting those affected by spinal cord injury, are today attempting the Calvert costal push, along Exmoor's beautiful coast from Woody Bay to Heddon's Mouth.

Backup regularly bring groups to Calvert Trust Exmoor, and our Teen Wheelies Course is based on wheelchair skills training that we initially developed with Backup. This is however the first time that an under 13's group have attempted the coastal push, and everyone in the group is excited to take part in the challenge!

This beautiful route, which features in Martin Hesp's "Top Ten of Wonderful Westcountry Walks," includes breath-taking views across the Bristol Channel, Foreland Lighthouse, countless sea birds and other wildlife, and of course Exmoor's deepest valley, the Heddon Valley leading to Heddon's Mouth.

Our intrepid explorers will finish their day with an ice cream from the National Trust shop at the other end of Heddon Valley, before being collected in our mini-buses and whisked back to Calvert Trust Exmoor for a well-deserved evening meal, and an exciting quiz and bingo evening.
