Challenging Disability Through Outdoor Adventure

Post Race Therapy for Team Calvert

The 2013 Bupa Great North Run was a huge success with 26 runners completing the world's largest half marathon event on Sunday, to raise money for Calvert Trust Kielder.

Liz, Koyser and Natalie

When Koyser, one of our guests said he would love to take part but needed some help, Liz and Natalie, activity instructors at the centre, stepped up to the challenge. With Koyser safely settled in his wheelchair they pushed him all the way from Newcastle to South Shields. The dynamic threesome made it across the finish line in an impressive 2 hours 31 minutes and 16 seconds.

Koyser Choudry said:

“The atmosphere was electric - the encouragement from the crowd really helped to keep us going.  Liz and Natalie were incredible and I would like to thank them for helping me to cross the finish line in such a fantastic time.”

After making it across the famous finish line in South Shields, runners made their way to the charity village where volunteers welcomed them with hot drinks and snacks.

Post Race Stretching with The Therapy Rooms

Each runner was then treated to a complimentary sports massage from therapist, Tracey Russell of The Therapy Rooms.

Tracy Russell, The Therapy Rooms said:

"Post event massage is particularly useful in reducing muscle soreness and preventing injury in the long term. After a half-marathon it feels really good too. I was able to help each runner stretch out properly, which is essential after such a physically demanding event.”

Thank you to Tracy and our volunteers for supporting this years team and to all our Team Calvert runners for taking on such an incredible challenge to raise vital funds for the centre.
