Challenging Disability Through Outdoor Adventure

Exmoor Friends festive events raise over £4,000

The Friends of Calvert Trust Exmoor have raised over £4,000 in the last few weeks through their programme of festive events.

On the 25th of November the Friends, working in partnership with Vanilla Boutique in South Molton, held a fantastic fashion show at the beautiful South Molton Town Hall, a Georgian Grade 1 Listed Building in the centre of the town.

With fashions provided by Vanilla and food provided by the Friends, the whole event was a huge success, lots of fun for everyone involved, and raised over £2,200.

At one point the models were also joined on stage by Santa and one of his Elves!

On Saturday 5th December 2015 the Parish Church of St. Mary Magdalene, Exford, held a Carol service in aid of the Friends of Calvert Trust Exmoor, attended by some 200 people.

The service was led by The Reverend David Weir, Rector of Exmoor, and the blessing was given The Venerable John Reed, Archdeacon of Taunton; a choir from Exford First School performed a song from the School nativity.

Readers included The Archdeacon, The Lord Lieutenant of Somerset, Ruby Winzer from Exmoor Community Youth club, Trustees and Staff of Calvert Trust Exmoor, and Penny Adie, Founder of the Two Moors festival. The service also featured Doris the donkey and two Exmoor sheep who enjoyed joining in with the hymns!

During the service a collection was held by the Friends of Calvert Trust Exmoor; raising over £1,850.

Tony Potter, Chief Executive of Calvert Trust Exmoor said; “It was a wonderful service, a fantastic start to our Christmas festivities. We were particularly heartened to see so many people from the Exford area attending the service; we really appreciate their support and generous donations.”

The funds donated will be used by Calvert Trust Exmoor to support people with disabilities to access adventurous activities.

It's not too late to get involved in the final Friend's final festive event of 2015!

The Friends have a fantastic Christmas raffle with loads of great prizes; they are selling the tickets in Green Lanes Cafe between now and the 18th of December 2015, don't forget to get yours the next time you are in Barnstaple!
