Challenging Disability Through Outdoor Adventure

20th Whitley Bay Cubs have a great day at Calvert Trust Kielder

On Saturday 5 March, the 20th Whitley Bay Cub pack visited Calvert Trust Kielder for an exciting day of activities and adventure. Sixteen Cubs and their brave Akela tackled the high ropes, conquered the King Swing, got stuck on the Velcro Olympics and raced to the top of the climbing wall!

20 Whitley Bay Cubs Visit Calvert Trust Kielder

To start their day, the Cubs achieved great heights by climbing to the top of the high ropes and then completing the exciting course. Each Cub was brimming with success, once their feet were firmly back on the ground. Ellen, aged 10 said:

"I can't believe I did that, I didn't think I could but by the end it was amazing!"

After a warming lunch, the Cubs took on the King Swing. Working as a team, to pull their friends to the very top! From here it was a short count down before each Cub got to experience the exhilatrion of 3G.

To complete the day the Cubs were put through their paces on the climbing wall - where each Cub was able to achieve a personalised goal. Whether that be to reach the summit of our mountain or ring the bell past the over hang.

Matthew Crumbley, Cub Scout Leader and Akela said of the day:

"We have had such a good day! It was so great to see the Cubs push past their fears and realise that if they put their mind to it they can achieve anything. The hit of the day has definitely been the King Swing, the Cubs loved it! The activity staff have been great, supporting the Cubs during the high ropes and other activities in such a positive way! Thank you for the brilliant experience."
