The event came about after Rory tweeted about his great day out at Calvert Trust Kielder. CTK staff spotted an opportunity and immediately got in touch. Rory was so impressed with the centre that he suggested the stand-up gig as a way to raise much-needed funds for the charity: 'I have seen some wonderful things over there. The spirit of resilience and fortitude you see in the people over there, and just the determination to carry on, inspired me in much the same way.'

The evening kicked off with drinks and canapes, and guests were treated to live music from RGS young jazz musicians Finlay Gerrand, Mathew McKeller and Henry Mattinson. Dr Bernard Trafford, Headmaster of RGS, welcomed everyone to the school and Peter Cockerill, CEO of Calvert Trust Kielder, talked about the Trust's work and showed a video of the Brittle Bones Society's visit to the Kielder Centre before inviting Rory to the stage. We then spent the best part of the next hour absolutely enthralled by the sheer talent, range and imagination of this highly entertaining performer. From the main protaganists of the British political scene through to Obama and Trump, via the Royal Family, Rory does'em all! The Q&A session with the audience gave Rory a further opportunity to regale us with impressions and hilarious anecdotes from his fascinating life and career.

Peter Cockerill said 'We are very grateful to Rory for kindly giving his time and talent to performing this evening. The support for this event has been fantastic and it's tremendous to see people having such a great time.'

We would like to thank Mincoffs Solicitors for sponsoring the event and Bernard Trafford and his staff at RGS for hosting. Marketing and Business Development Manager at Mincoffs Solicitors, Claire Fenwick (pictured here with Rory), said: 'We were absolutely thrilled to be sponsoring this event. Calvert Trust Kielder is a charity Mincoffs Solicitors have had a long association with and we were delighted to be able to further support the excellent work they do transforming the lives of those with physical, sensory and learning disabilities along with their families, friends and carers.'
