Golf day raises £7,000 for Calvert Trust Kielder

Bibby Financial Services and Graeme Cleasby

17 corporate teams spent the day on the course at Ponteland Golf Club last week to raise £7,000 for Calvert Trust Kielder at their annual golf day.

The golf day which is now in its 14th year was a huge success with four new teams entering the competition to compete for The Calvert Cup.

Hazel Munro, Event Coordinator, Calvert Trust Kielder said:

“It is fantastic to receive the support from the local business community especially in the current economic climate.”

Playing for the first time in the event was Doug Cleasby of Addo Services.  Doug’s brother Graeme is 39 and has Cerebral Palsy.  He has very limited use of his limbs and is unable to communicate verbally with other people. Graeme has been visiting the centre up to three times a year for the past fifteen years and eagerly awaits his reunions with staff and friends.

Doug Cleasby, Addo Services said:

“The superb facilities at the centre bring Graeme the much needed independence and holiday he needs at key points throughout the year.  He has made some great friends with other guests, but more so with the staff, who he looks upon as key to the success of his stay.

I was thrilled to be able to enter a team in this year’s golf day and support the Trust which makes such a difference to Graeme’s life.”

Graeme came along to the golf day with his Mum to help draw the raffle and present the awards to the winning teams.  This years winners were Bibby Factors North East Limited and the runners up were A & P Joiners and Apex Radios.

Linda Squire, Development Manager, Calvert Trust Kielder said:

“We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part and helped to make the day a success.  The money raised will help us to continue to provide much needed respite care for people with disabilities and their families.”
