Challenging Disability Through Outdoor Adventure

Walk across Morecame Bay for The Lake District Calvert Trust

The Wainwright Society, who are supporting The Lake District Calvert Trust as their Charity for the Year were out again in force recently when 43 Society members undertook the Cross Bay Walk from Hest Bank to Flookburgh to raise much needed funds for the Trust.

Earlier in the year, members completed their annual challenge which this year was a re-enactment of Wainwright's 1931 tour and were joined by repesentatives of the Calvert Trust on their final stage of the walk into Grasmere.  Their continued support of The Lake District Calvert Trust is raising vital funds which will directly benefit our visitors with disabilities as quickly as possible.

The primary aim of the Wainwright Society is to keep alive the things which Alfred Wainwright promoted through the guidebooks, started over 50 years ago, and the many other publications which were the 'labour of love' for a large portion of his life.

The Society, has over the years, raised many thousands of pounds for causes which they believe Wainwright would have appreciated and supported and I'm sure that the great man himself would wholly approve of the work The Calvert Trust do in enabling people with even the most profound and complex of disabilities to enjoy being active in this wonderful countryside in the manner that he would have wanted, up close and personal!
