No Dis in My Ability!

Andy Walker is a regular visitor to the centre and describes his amazing story and how the Lake District Calvert Trust has helped him to concentrate on his ability not his disability!

At the age of 28 Andy was ‘living the dream’, an active, fun loving 'jack the lad' character, life simply could not have been better. Then Andy suffered a spinal cord injury whilst diving into the sea in Goa and was paralysed from the neck down.

I have every bit the fulfilling, frantic and rewarding life I had before and I couldn’t have done it without the Calvert Trust.  For anyone who has felt the same as I did, I can only urge you to take up the challenges they offer to find yourself. This place and the experience they offer changes lives, allowing people like me to see their true potential.”

Through the Back Up Trust Andy came along to a sailing course at the Lake District Calvert Trust and hasn’t looked back.

"Amazing experience, I have used the impetus and confidence gained at the Calvert Trust to get my life back on track.”

Andy now aims to motivate and encourage those who, like him, want to move on to the next goal and live their dreams, whatever they may be!
