Challenging Disability Through Outdoor Adventure

CalvertStock was the 'brainchild' of Rob Lott, Calvert Trust Exmoor's Head of Communications. Rob joined Calvert Trust Exmoor in March 2011 and had the idea of a music festival to raise funds just a few months later, first suggesting the idea to the then Chief Executive in June 2011.

Rob's initial idea was to hold the festival on Calvert Trust Exmoor's site; however it quickly became clear that an event of this scale would be too disruptive to our normal activities, and we started to look for other venues.

Ray and Jackie Williams from First Step Management, a North Devon based entertainment agency and music promoter, were (and still are) providing discos and evening entertainments for our guests, and we approached them for help.

From then on Ray and Jackie took the idea of CalvertStock to heart and took over the organisation for us; they continue to put a huge amount of effort in to making CalvertStock the successful event it is today.

Another key supporter was Andrew Lathwell of Lathwell and Associates. Andrew took the idea of 'CalvertStock' and, inspired by the poster for the original 1969 Woodstock festival, came up with the fantastic 'pheasant and guitar' motif which has been on every Calvertstock poster.

The first event, CalvertStock2012, was held on the 11th of August 2012 at the Beggars Roost, Lynton.

As the event began to grow in both size and reputation the decision was taken to look for a new venue for 2014. The new owners of The Old Station House Inn offered the use of their fantastic venue, which is not only just half a mile from Calvert Trust Exmoor it's perfectly located approximately equidistant from Barnstaple, Lynton, and Ilfracombe. CalvertStock had found its new home.

CalvertStock 2014 took place on the 21st of June 2014, and was bigger and better than ever, with two stages (main stage in a marquee outdoors and an acoustic stage indoors) twice as many bands, and more stalls and children's entertainments too.

Crowds and sunshine at CalvertStock 2014

The sun shone, the music flowed, and the crowd loved it! The success of CalvertStock 2014 led us to look at how we could 'up the ante' again for 2015, without losing our ethos of being a family friendly festival.

The result? CalvertStock 2015 became a 2 day festival, and working with the local farmers we were able to offer camping on the field next door to festival, giving campers safe, traffic free access to the festival site.

CalvertStock 2016 will again be a 2 day festival; Advanced Tickets will go on sale in early 2016 with a special ‘early bird’ deal; 2 days camping and 2 days entry into CalvertStock 2016 for just £10 per person.
