At Calvert Trust Exmoor everyone is encouraged to take part.
Our breaks include a structured programme of activities, lead by qualified instructors and tailored to the specific needs of our visitors.
The range of indoor and outdoor activities guarantees fun and adventure whatever the weather. We provide both standard and adaptive equipment as well as waterproofs and boots. Visitors need only bring warm comfortable clothing, for a suggested kit list click here
The centre has exclusive access to Wistlandpound reservoir for sailing*, kayaking and canoeing. There are hoist facilities on the pontoon and a safety boat is present at all times. Large sailing boats for groups and beginners are available as well as access dinghies for those who want more of a challenge. RYA and BCU courses are available for those who wish to develop their skills.
There is an innovative and accessible activity trail around the reservoir and woods with pictorial signs for those with learning difficulties offering everyone the chance to try orienteering.
We also have a selection of hand crank and KMX bikes as an alternative form of transportation around the reservoir.
Our stables and indoor and outdoor riding arenas offer horse experience activities such as natural horsemanship, stable management and working horses, as well as riding and carriage driving.*
Climbing and abseiling takes place on either our outdoor or indoor climbing wall, both provide variety to suit all abilities; you can even abseil in a wheelchair. Alternatively take the zip wire for an instant adrenalin rush.
Our covered archery range provides the ideal opportunity to learn basic archery techniques or enhance existing skills.
Learn bush craft and survival skills in the woods or try the accessible challenge course and tackle the spiders web and navigate the swamp crossing if you dare.
We have a high ropes course which includes the crate stack and the challenge continues to find the group who can stack the most crates. We've even made a site indoors so visitors in winter can compete too.
For those who wish to venture further afield and see more of North Devon we can build a discovery and exploration session into your programme. Trips can be tailored to your requirements whether it’s a visit to a local town or a nearby beach or one of the many local attractions such as the Exmoor Zoo.
* Please note Sailing is only available on 7 day breaks, and Stables activities are not available at weekends (except for our special Horse Experience Weekends).
"One pupil who does not often show signs of any concentration used a lot of hand/eye coordination in the archery and showed a lot of awareness of cause and effect. He really came to life!"
