Activity Instructor

Calvert Trust Exmoor has an immediate vacancy for an activity instructor for the 2018/2019 season.

As well as working with our diverse group of visitors, the successful candidates will be involved in the development and maintenance of activity facilities and equipment. You will also be required to work with horses (under supervision from our stables team).


The successful candidate will:

  • Be enthusiastic and have strong interpersonal skills to manage and encourage the diverse range of visitors who undertake our activities.
  • Have a good team ethic.
  • Have the willingness to learn the key skills required to take on the instructor role at Calvert Trust Exmoor and an interest in working with people with disabilities.
  • Be flexible and prepared to adapt in this demanding and ever changing environment.
  • Have experience working in outdoor education.
  • Have experience of or be willing to work with horses (Under supervision and with training provided).

 Experience of working with people with disabilities is not a requirement but would be advantageous.



  • Essential:
    • Single Pitch Award or Climbing Wall Assessment (CWA) with Abseil.
    • BC UKCC Coach Level 1.
    • RYA Powerboat level 2
    • First aid trained


  • Desirable:
    • BC UKCC Coach level 2.
    • Archery Instructor award
    • RYA Dinghy Instructor
    • Experience with archery and bush craft.
    • Driving licence.

Salary and Benefits. The salary with minimum essential qualifications will be £16,293 pa. This is reduced to £15,793 for the 1st 3 months whilst in training; however on successful completion of our pass-out evaluations and subject to appropriate NGB qualifications, salary can increase to a maximum of £16,800 in the first year.

Calvert Trust Exmoor provides staff lunch during a working day; single living accommodation is also available (at a small cost). Eligible employees will be auto-enrolled in our work place pension scheme.

Kitchen Assistant (casual)

General kitchen duties to include washing dishes and food preparation.


Uniform is provided, applicants must be at least 18 years old. Previous experience of similar work would be an advantage, but is not a requirement as full training will be given.

The hours of work will vary but may include mornings, evenings and weekends depending on visitor numbers, and may also include other days for sickness and holiday cover. Applicants must therefore have their own transport or be able to get themselves to our centre for the required start times.

The wage for this role meets National Minimum Wage/ Living Wage (according to age).
