Calvert Trust Kielder is recognised globally as a leading provider of outdoor experiences for disabled people.


Our disabled guests experience the very same emotions and experiences as any other guests inside our safe, inclusive uniquely challenging facility and beautiful location.


We welcome School, College and University groups where one, many or all group members are disabled. Calvert Trust Kielder has helped disabled people to explore and overcome challenge for over 30 years giving us a deep understanding of the relationship between challenge, learning and living – for anyone.


Calvert Trust Kielder delivers seriously standout and life-changing experiences in a safe and magical space for any School, College or University that has a 100% specialist remit or that has any mix whatsoever of both disabled and non-disabled students.



For your total peace of mind, we are licensed by AALS (Adventure Activities Licensing Service), we are a Royal Yachting Association Training and Sailability Accredited centre and a British Canoeing Quality Mark and Paddle-Ability centre. 


All activities are instructor-led by experienced and qualified staff who have undertaken specialist training in running safe activities for multi-ability groups. Many team members also hold National Governing Body Qualifications and all staff are Enhanced DBS checked.


We welcome pre-stay visits to inspire you, reassure you and help with planning your experience.



Schools, colleges and universities that have a 100% specialist remit or that have any mix whatsoever of both disabled and non-disabled students can organise single days, multiple days and residential experiences of any duration.


Accommodation and Catering

Our 3 Executive Chalets, Straker (Sleeps up to 6), Bradbury and McArdle (Sleep up to 4). Five Calvert Chalets sleep up to 6, five Calvert Chalets sleep up to 7, and our 12 rooms (9 en-suite) in our Main Building sleep between 1 and 8 people. Self-catering is an option in the chalets or you are welcome to breakfast, lunch and/or dine in our kitchen on-the-day or as part of a bespoke package that we create together.

What Things Cost

Most groups that book with Calvert Trust Kielder contain 10 or more people, so that’s the group size we are quoting for here. If your group is smaller or much bigger, please talk to us and we will let you know exact prices.


Children and young adults can cost from £60 per young person per day.

Children and young adults can cost from £130 per young person per 3-day residential (2 nights, 1 full day and 2 half days as in the example above).

There are sometimes free places available for staff, so please ask about that.
