Stables Christmas Fair Successfully Raises Over £1800

The Lake District Calvert Trust's annual Stables Christmas Fair on Saturday 22nd November was a resounding success and we are delighted to confirm the event raised over £1800. Thank you to everyone for the fantastic support.

The Riding Centre, located on the outskirts of Keswick, enables people with even the most profound physical, sensory and learning disabilities to actively participate in activities such as horse riding or driving a pony and trap. Charitable donations are essential to continue this specialist work and events like the Stables Christmas Fair help raise funds and awareness.

The many visitors enjoyed browsing for Christmas gifts and cards, taking part in the tombola and raffle where they had the chance of some fabulous prizes donated by Stables supporters, or relaxing over a delicious selection of refreshments including home-made mince pies, stollen and mulled wine. The crafts and face painting stall run by Sam Mellor kept both children and adults entertained! There was also the opportunity to visit the ponies relaxing in the stables between riding lessons.

Funds raised at our previous Stables events are being put to good use. The Stables arena and viewing gallery are being refurbished over the Christmas shut down with state of the art equipment to enhance our visitors riding experience. More news on this will follow in the new year.

There are many ways of supporting the Stables including helping as a volunteer, donations towards running costs or improvements, and our Adopt a Pony scheme where levels of sponsorship start from £12. There are 10 horses and ponies to sponsor – why not sponsor one as a Christmas gift?

A huge thank you to the many supporters and volunteers who helped to make this event such a great success including: Enesco and Low Alpine for donated goods; our Stables volunteers and the Rotary Club of Bassenthwaite.
