Challenging Disability Through Outdoor Adventure

Outreach

The Lake District Calvert Trust Outreach Programme has been established to increase the provision of outdoor activities for people with disabilities thoughout the UK.

As part of our project we can:

  • Offer direct support to people with disabilities, schools, colleges or social groups wanting to participate in outdoor activities in their local area.
  • Provide access to specialist equipment and resources to enable projects to take place (subject to availability)
  • Deliver training to local outdoor providers who can deliver inclusive activities.

If you would like more information on this project and to find out how it may be able to support you, then please contact our outreach team at enquiries@lakedistrict.calvert-trust.org.uk.

Beaumont College Adventure Film Making

Adventure film-making lets the students of Beaumont College try out lots of different activities, whilst developing their film-making and photography skills.

"The students produced 'Journey North' a film that captures inclusive approaches to new media and challenging outdoor environments. Shot in 2012 in the Lake District it charts a journey to previously inaccessible landscapes." Beaumont College

Walking for All

In 2011, our Outreach team worked on a new publication to encourage outdoor leaders to include people with disabilities when organising walks in the outdoors.

Filled with top tips and advice, we worked in partnership with Mountain Leader Training England and the  British Mountaineering Council.

Hampshire County Concil

The Lake District Calvert Trust has delivered three multi-day training courses for Hampshire County Council between 2010 and 2012.

As well as generic Disability Training, they also provided activity specific training in sailing, canoeing, kayaking and climbing to activity centre staff and community group leaders and volunteers.
