Bringing the Great Outdoors, Indoors!

Ball Committee in the Woods

Calvert Trust Kielder is inviting supporters to spend a glamorous evening in the forest at its distinctive annual charity ball.

The Calvert Ball is taking place on Friday 5 October, and for one night only, Hilton Newcastle Gateshead will be transformed into Kielder Water & Forest Park to reflect the surroundings of the centre, where people with disabilities can enjoy outdoor activities.

With the help of volunteers and support from local businesses, the great Northumberland wilderness will be recreated inside the Hilton Newcastle Gateshead using a variety of real trees, pine cones, leaves and special effects.

Since its debut in 2009, the ball has raised in excess of £85,000, making it the biggest event in Calvert Trust Kielder’s fundraising calendar.  The funds raised have helped to make a difference to the lives of over 15,000 children and adults with disabilities from across the North East.

Peter Cockerill, CEO, Calvert Trust Kielder said:

“We are extremely grateful to all of our sponsors and supporters who help us to truly change lives. Without the dedication and support of these local businesses and friends, we would not be able to host The Calvert Ball, which raises substantial funds for the Trust.”

The ball has experienced year on year growth and the committee are hoping to exceed last year’s fundraising total of £35,000.  The charity is already on course to achieve its target thanks to two generous new sponsors, Gorman Hamilton Solicitors and TLW Solicitors.  Sponsorship has also come from Perro Design & Communication, Gordon Brown Law Firm, Hilton Newcastle Gateshead and Robson Print.

Trish Hall, Conveyancing, Gorman Hamilton Solicitors said:

“At Gorman Hamilton we are always keen to give our support to local charities.

We have supported Calvert Trust Kielder for the last 2 years and are delighted to continue our support of such a wonderful charity.

We have visited Calvert Trust Kielder and have had the opportunity to see first-hand the support they offer people with disabilities.  The facilities are wonderful and the staff exceptionally committed.  We are honoured to be involved with the charity and hope our contribution helps the staff of Calvert Trust Kielder to continue their tremendous work.”

Stephen Winn, Head of Clinical Negligence, TLW Solicitors said:

We decided to sponsor The Calvert Ball because of the fantastic work that they do to enable people with disabilities to achieve their potential in a fun and secure way.  We often deal with clients who have suffered a life changing injury and try to help them achieve their goals.  This often includes advice and referrals to other providers and centres.  Facilities such as those available at Calvert Trust, if appropriate for the needs of our clients, would be an ideal place where they can feel safe, welcome and supported, and appreciate there is life following a disability.

I am thrilled to be involved in raising vital funds to help Calvert Trust to continue with their very worthy cause, and looking forward to the Ball, which promises to be a very exciting evening.”
