Illustrious Adventurers Raise Over £16,000 for Calvert Trust Exmoor

We would like to say a huge thank you to the fantastic Cordon Rouge Club who raised £16,486 for Calvert Trust Exmoor at their recent event at The Royal Geographical Society

The Cordon Rouge Club was founded in 2008 by GH MUMM Champagne, to reward exceptional people for their extraordinary achievements within the realms of exploration, sailing, adventure and discovery. The Club is made up of inspiring adventurers who show courage and dedication in their particular fields.


The event which was kindly sponsored by Land Rover, included speeches about their adventures from 6 club members:


Ben Fogle: Broadcaster, traveller and adventurer. He has rowed the Atlantic Ocean, crossed Antarctica on foot, run across the Sahara and crossed the Empty Quarter on a camel. He is also Chairman of the Cordon Rouge Club.

Tom Avery: Polar Explorer, Mountaineer, Author and Motivational Speaker, who made a record-breaking journey to the South Pole, One of only 41 people in history to have reached both North and South Poles on
foot, Tom is best known for recreating Robert Peary’s disputed 1909 dog sled expedition to the North Pole.

Colonel John Blashford-Snell OBE: Adventurer, broadcaster, lecturer and explorer who has organised and led more than 100 expeditions. He is also President of the Scientific Exploration Society.

Neil Laughton:  An adventurer who has organised and led expeditions on 7 Continents by land, sea and air. he has completed the Explorers Grand Slam, circumnavigated the UK on a jet ski and piloted a flying car across the Sahara Desert.

Geoff Holt MBE: An ex-professional yachtsman with many ocean crossings under his belt who was paralysed in a swimming accident in 1984 but has since circumnavigated the UK in a dingy, was the first person with a disability to sail single-handed around Great Britain, the first quadriplegic to sail solo across the Atlantic and is currently planning to sail solo around the world.

Wing Commander Andy Green OBE BA RAF is a Royal Air Force fighter pilot and World Land Speed Record holder. He is currently planning a new record attempt to break the 1,000 miles per hour (1,600 km/h) mark with Bloodhound SSC.


Around 600 people attended this fantastic evening of adventure, including other Cordon Rouge Club members such as Charley Boorman, Mike Golding and Leo Houlding.

The event also included an auction with 6 very special lots, donated by the event sponsors:

Lot 1 -  A Leather Expedition Kit containing a bottle of G.H.Mumm champagne, designed by Bear Grylls in collaboration with luxury leather designer Bill Amberg. Donated by G.H.Mumm.


Lot 2 - A collectors edition Jeroboam of G.H.Mumm Cordon Rouge champagne, signed by members of the Cordon Rouge Club. Donated by G.H.Mumm.


Lot 3 - A three course meal for two at Searcys at The Gherkin, paired with G.H.Mumm prestige cuvée R.Lalou champagne. Donated by G.H.Mumm and Searcys.


Lot 4 - Get kitted out for your next adventure in Canada Goose clothing. Donated by Canada Goose.


Lot 5 - A half day Land Rover driving experience for 2 people. Donated by Land Rover.


Lot 6 - A Calvert Challenge Outdoor Adventure with a luxury weekend break in the Kentisbury Grange Hotel, for 6 people. Donated by Calvert Trust Exmoor and the Kentisbury Grange Hotel.


Calvert Trust Exmoor will put the £16,486 raised into bursaries, which we use to assist guests in financial need.
