Henry's Sahara Adventure for Calvert Trust Exmoor

Henry Potter, son of Calvert Trust Exmoor's CEO Tony Potter,  has recently completed the Marathon De Sables, 156 miles of gruelling desert running in 50oC heat, in aid of Calvert Trust Exmoor

Henry completed the 156 miles in a total run time of 38 hours, 57 minutes and 19 seconds over the 6 days of the race, and finished a respectable 313th out of the 1237 runners who completed the race.

Donations are still coming in via his Just Giving page and in person, and Henry is hopeful he will end up raising between £6,000 and £7,000 to support people with disabilities who are in financial need, via Calvert Trust Exmoor's bursary schemes.

One of Henry's fellow competitors and a friend of Calvert Trust Exmoor, Sir Ranulph Fiennes also completed the Marathon De Sables this year and at age 71 became the oldest Briton ever to do so. Sir Ranulph said that at times the race was “more hellish than hell” and also described the experience as "like walking on a treadmill in the heat. Sand kept slipping away under my feet. I kept losing my grip.”

The fastest competitor was Rachid El Morabity from Morocco, who completed the ultra-marathon in just 20 hours 21 minutes and 39 seconds, winning the race for the third time.
