Exmoor Calvert Horseshoe – 30th May 2016

Calvert Trust Exmoor is running the Exmoor Calvert Horseshoe, an open country horse riding event on the second Bank Holiday in May, 30th May 2016.

‘The Exmoor Calvert Horseshoe’ is actually two alternative rides through beautiful Exmoor countryside taking place on the same day. The First ride is a 15 kilometre leisure ride, open to all riders over the age of six. The second is a 25 kilometre endurance ride, for adult riders only.

Both rides start from Comer’s Gate, near Withypool. From here the riders pass over Room Hill, down the Barle River valley towards Winsford, then north to Luckwell Bridge and on to Dunkery Gate.

From Dunkery Gate the two rides split; the Leisure riders head west on Dunkery Hill and towards Hillhead Cross, and the Endurance riders head north-east from Dunkery Gate to Webber’s post, and on passed Cloutsham Ball to Prickslade and Horner Woods. Both routes are circular and return to the finish at Comer’s Gate.

Robin Nicoll, Head of Fundraising at Calvert Trust Exmoor (and a keen horse rider) said; “Exmoor Calvert Horseshoe is not only a wonderful open country ride through some beautiful parts of Exmoor, it’s also an excellent way to support Calvert Trust Exmoor, enabling us to introduce more people with disabilities to the joys of horse riding and carriage driving. Duke (my 17.2 hand grey Irish Draught) and I are looking forward to taking part in the Endurance ride; We’d love to see you there!””
