Sherborne Abbey concert raises over £5,000 for Calvert Trust Exmoor

On the evening of Thursday 8th of September 2016 Sherborne Abbey hosted a concert of some of classical music’s best-loved orchestral works, raising £5,380 in aid of Calvert Trust Exmoor.

The concert included feature performances from some of the finest soloists in the world, including;

  • Ruth Rogers (Violin)
  • John Anderson (Oboe)
  • John Lenehan (Piano)
  • Helen Habershon (Clarinet)
  • Caroline Dearnley (Cello)

The orchestra was conducted by Paul Ellis and led by Christina Scott, head of strings at Bryanston school.

The programme included Bach’s 5th Brandenburg Concerto, the Albinoni Concerto for oboe and strings in D minor, and Bach’s Double Concerto for oboe, violin and strings.

Fiona Walker, Community Fundraiser at Calvert Trust Exmoor said “We were honoured to be part of this superb event in such a beautiful and historic venue; our thanks go to Georgina Wilkes, John Wilkes and Marcello Fantoni for arranging the concert. The fantastic amount raised will go straight into bursaries, which we use to assist people with disabilities in financial need.”

The orchestral concert marked the culmination of Marcello’s year-long solo expedition through Central Asia, China, Mongolia and Russia, studying  nomadic cultures and how they are adapting to deal with the challenges of modernisation and urbanisation, and raising money for Calvert Trust Exmoor at the same time.
