Winter School Residentials at Calvert Trust Exmoor

The campaign group "Learning Away"  has recently launched a new campaign that Calvert Trust Exmoor are supporting, called #WinterResidentials.

The campaign is all about encouraging schools to provide more residential educational trips in the Autumn school term, when the benefits are greater and often the costs are lower too. Learning Away have conducted extensive research spanning five years and 60 schools, which highlights a number of benefits of taking students’ on a winter residentials.

These benefits include the opportunity to:

1) Boost students’ resilience, self-confidence and well-being.

2) Improve students’ engagement with learning, including positive changes in behaviour and attendance.

3) Allow time for all learning to be embedded and reinforced back in school

4) Foster deeper relationships which are sustained back in school. Winter residentials allow relationships between staff and students to become more trusting and respectful back in the classroom.

5) The longer nights and shorter days offer new learning opportunities on an outdoor residential such as: astronomy; night walks; exploring in the dark; and enjoying exhilarating winter weather. The beginning of the school year is a good time of year to introduce key subjects with inspiring hands on learning.

6) Winter residentials can also be more affordable giving schools the benefit of a greater return on investment.

Here at Calvert Trust Exmoor we support lots of schools to have fantastic residential breaks, allowing students of any level of ability to take part in enjoyable and challenging learning experiences.

We still have a few spaces for schools looking to undertake #WinterResidentials in late 2017 & early 2018, please contact us on 01598 763221 or receptionexmoor@calvert-trust.org.uk to find out more.
