The Calvert Ball Raises £36,000

Calvert Trust Kielder Staff Team

The annual event was held at the Hilton Newcastle Gateshead on 2 September with over 230 people attending to enjoy an evening of top class entertainment from host Steve Walls and The Jamie Squire Band.

The theme for the ball was 'An Autumn Celebration' which was brought to life with real trees, leaves and pine cones from Kielder Forest courtesy of Bellingham Forestry Commission and Cowells Garden Centre.  Guests had their photograph taken with live birds brought along by Kielder Water Birds of Prey Centre

This was followed by a fabulous three course meal in the Gateshead Suite.

After dinner speaker Paul Godfrey, captivated guests as he told his story of how Calvert Trust helped him to recover from a serious abseiling accident.

Top prize in the Grand Auction was a once in a lifetime trip on board HMS Northumberland.

The money raised will make a huge difference to the centre, which helps over 5,000 children and adults with disabilities to realise their potential through the challenge of outdoor activities each year.

Corporate and Events Fundraiser, Hazel Munro, was extremely pleased with the amount raised on the night, she said:

“I am thrilled and delighted with the support that we received for The Calvert Ball; we wouldn’t have been able to raise such a fantastic sum without the loyal support and help that we receive from local businesses.  Without their help we would struggle to make such a positive difference to so many lives.  I would like to say a special thank you to this year’s sponsors, Kilfrost, Perro and Robson Print.  I would also like to thank Mighty Fine Events and Bels Flowers for helping make the event a success.”
