Police Raise Thousands for Kielder

Northumbria Police netted almost £20,000 from their annual Pro-Am Charity Golf Tournament.

Battling gale force winds and torrential rain, more than 20 teams took to the course at Matfen Hall alongside the region's professional golfers to raise funds for local charities.

Calvert Trust Kielder was this year’s main beneficiary receiving a funding boost of £12,500.  The other charities to benefit were Over the Wall, Slaley Group Riding for the Disabled Association and Gateshead Crossroads Care.

Committee Chairman Assistant Chief Officer Bernie McCardle, said:

"It's fantastic that we've been able to help so many deserving causes this year.  The weather certainly made for testing conditions for all the golfers but it's to their credit that no-one gave up.

I'd like to thank all those who took part and dug deep to contribute to the event. It is down to the continuing commitment from all our sponsors and supporters that the tournament is such a success each year.

Even in these difficult economic times it is heartening organisations and individuals have come forward to help achieve such a substantial amount for local good causes."

Calvert Trust Kielder's Corporate Fundraiser Hazel Munro said:

“The money raised will go towards providing memorable and life changing experiences for children and adults with disabilities from across the North East.

We were delighted to be chosen as the main beneficiary of the Golf Tournament.   We rely on funds like this to keep our services accessible to children with disabilities and their families.  Thank you to Northumbria Police and everyone who took part in the event.”
